Torn, faded, stained or silvered photos repaired by a professional photographer. Quoted per photo.
Home-burned DVDs don't last forever either. The dye layer breaks down over time, and plenty of discs from the 2000s already skip or won't play. We can copy yours to a USB drive before that happens.
Camcorder mini-DVDs too, finalized or not. Send them along with your tapes and everything comes back on the same drive.
Ask about your DVDsYou get a price before any work starts, and the price you approve is the price you pay.
Call, text or message us with what you have and roughly how many. We'll talk it over and send you an estimate.
We come to you anywhere around Chautauqua Lake, by appointment, count everything with you, and give you a signed receipt for your originals.
Within two business days we inspect every item and send your quote. Nothing is added without your OK, and anything that can't be recovered isn't charged.
Your originals come back with a USB flash drive that's yours to keep. Bring it back next time and we'll add your next order to it at no charge.
Most orders take two to three weeks. Need it sooner? Rush service in under a week is available.
Handled like it's the only copy. Because it usually is.
Your tapes, film and photos stay with us and are never shipped anywhere. You know exactly who has them and where they are.
Film cleaning, splice repair, color correction and the correct playback speed are part of every price, not add-ons.
Sensible file names, kept in the original order by tape, reel, box or carousel. Want the names and dates written on your slides and boxes included too? We can add those.
No extra charge for long tapes and no volume games. Your twentieth tape gets the same time and care as the first, so the price is the same too.
I'm Dave Anderson. I fell in love with photography and the darkroom in fourth grade, and it's been my life ever since.
In 1985 I owned a retail camera shop, where we copied and restored old photos and sent home movies out for transfer. After that came more than 30 years as a commercial studio photographer and CGI artist.
Today I do the transfers myself, by hand, right here in Bemus Point. Your tapes, reels and photos never leave Chautauqua County, and you deal with me directly, from the first call to delivery.
Digital Preserves™ runs alongside my commercial photography, which you'll still find at DavidAnderson.tv.

Prices are flat and per item. Tapes and discs are priced per piece no matter how long they run, film by the foot, and photos and slides per image. There are no volume tiers and no surprise charges.

Two to three weeks from pickup. For Christmas, have your order in by December 5. Rush service in under a week is available for an added charge.
Your originals, plus a USB flash drive with everything on it. The drives we use have both a standard USB plug and a USB-C plug, so they work with computers, newer phones and tablets, and most smart TVs.
Video comes as MP4 files. Photos and slides come as JPEGs, with TIFF available on request. Extra drives for family members are available.
Every order also comes with a private download link, good for 60 days, so family members near and far can download their own copies. It works best on a computer.
Yes. Videos are standard MP4 files and photos are JPEGs, so they open in the photo and video apps on phones, tablets and computers. Trim them, share them, post them, or make copies for the whole family. There's no copy protection.
Yes, two ways. Your videos are standard MP4 files, so you can pause on any moment and take a screenshot on your phone or computer.
Or tell us the moments you love, and we'll pull those frames for you, clean up the dust and scratches, correct the color, and send them back as JPG files, ready to print or share. Home movie frames are small, so they look best at snapshot size or on a screen. Ask for a quote.
Snapped tapes and broken shells can usually be repaired, though a few seconds at the splice may be lost. Moldy tapes need special handling, so we quote those separately. Either way, we show you the problem before doing any extra work, and if nothing can be recovered, there's no charge.
Usually, yes. Home movie film from the 1940s through the 1970s often holds up remarkably well when it's been kept in the house. The warning signs are a vinegar smell, film that has curled or turned brittle, and white or fuzzy spots of mold.
Even then, most film can still be transferred, and faded or reddish color can usually be brought back a long way. Film doesn't improve with age, so sooner is better. We inspect every reel before you're quoted, and you're never charged for anything that can't be recovered.
Yes, for scanning. Small reels are joined onto one larger reel so the film runs through the scanner in one smooth pass, instead of stopping to thread each little reel.
When the scan is done, we separate them again and put each one back on its own reel, in its original box, with fresh leader added to protect the film and make it easier to thread next time. Every reel is labeled from the day we pick it up, so each one goes back where it came from, and each one comes back to you as its own video file.
Please don't. An old projector can scratch or tear film that has sat for decades, and a VCR that hasn't run in years can chew up a tape. Bring everything as it is. We check every item on equipment we keep cleaned and maintained, and we'll tell you what's on it.
No. If a tape turns out to be blank, or has less than two minutes on it, there's no charge for it.
Your 20th tape or 100th photo takes as long as the first and gets the same care, so prices and quality are consistent for everyone. Every price already includes film cleaning, color correction and file names that make sense. More importantly, your originals are handled by one person and never shipped anywhere.
We know how irreplaceable your originals are, so we'd rather plan how they travel than leave it to chance. If you're outside our free pickup area around Chautauqua Lake, call or text (716) 281-0005 and we'll talk through the safest way to get them to us.
That's normal. Text us a photo of a tape, reel or slide box at (716) 281-0005 and we'll tell you what it is and what it takes to transfer.
